Hampton Court

Massive brick palace started by Henry VIII’s right hand man - Thomas Wolsey. A must see for fans of The Tudors or Hilary Mantel’s “Wolf Hall”. The enormous complex has glorious gardens and the best preserved and largest medieval kitchens in Europe, a Real (or Royal) Tennis court that is still in use and a famous maze. Children love it.

Windsor Castle

The world’s largest inhabited castle and HM Queen Elizabeth’s most frequented home. Nearly a thousand years old, this is a must-see. Beautifully restored after a disastrous fire in 1992, the State Apartments are sumptuously furnished. The Queen Mary Dolls’ House is a masterpiece of craftsmanship in miniature. St George’s Chapel is an architectural wonder and houses tombs of numerous monarchs, including Henry VIII and King George VI & Queen Elizabeth the “Queen Mother” - the present Queen’s parents. Cross the bridge over the River Thames to Eton, home to the famous private boarding school, founded by King Henry VI in 1440 and where Princes William & Harry spent their teenage years. Prince Harry married Meghan Markel in St. George’s Chapel in May 2018.

Greenwich

Historic maritime area, on the banks of the River Thames,12 miles SE of Central London. See the Queen’s House, London’s first Classical Renaissance building and one of the sources of inspiration for the White House in Washington DC. Visit the Painted Hall of the Royal Naval College (used in countless movies), the National Maritime museum (free entry) or the Royal Observatory, where you will also find the world famous Greenwich Meridian. Learn how and why Greenwich Mean Time came into existence.

Thames Valley & Chiltern Hills

Between Windsor & Oxford lie the Chiltern Hills. Beautiful rolling chalk hills with rich agricultural land and charmingly quaint villages and some fantastic pubs with great food. Unknown to many Brits, and by-passed by all tour companies, this area never fails to amaze and impress. In thirty years I have never seen a tour bus here!
